The Habano Museum

Unique
in Cuba, The Habano Museum is located in an old building from the 18th
century in the Havana Historical Centre, this institution was founded
in February 26th, 1993.It is the only one in Cuba dedicated to preserve
and show collections related to the culture brought by tobacco.
It exhibits instruments used to process the leaves, pipes, lighters and other utensils of the smoking art, besides a vast collection of lithographic stones and demies of prestigious cigar trade marks.
The
house has three exposition rooms, two lobbies, and the store Habano House,
inaugurated in May, 1994. Its location next to the museum makes it peculiar
among the 92 cigar commercial entities world wide.
At the first floor reception room visitors can appreciate details of the
history of tobacco in Cuba. It holds a press from the 19th century, coming
from the factory La Corona, a twisting table with its guillotine, several
tobacco packages and tobacco pouches from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Main Hall, gives a general exposition about cultural and historical topics of Cuban tobacco, as well as its effects in arts. Pipes from the17th, 18th and 19th centuries can be found in this room, as well as examples of silversmith, handicraft, painting, lithography and ceramic art.
The
Lithographic salon in the upper floor presents several tobacco trademarks
from the 19th and 20th centuries. The exhibition and conference room shows
the geographical location of all Habano Houses around the world, Habanos
Distributor Enterprises, and a collection of photo of Habanos’ Men
and other great world personalities who smoke cigars.
This latter room presents exhibitions of Cuban and foreign artists, whose works are related to the cigar’s world. It is the venue of conferences and events sponsored by the museum.
Continuing the traditional cigar factory readings, which lasts since 1895, the institution organizes meetings between important intellectual people and cigar manufacturers.
